This wearable sculpture was inspired by Bolivia’s Diablada, a dance of myth and defiance where good and evil collide in a vivid display of movement and spirit. I wanted to capture that energy—the intensity of the costumes, the clash of forces, and the resilience woven into the tradition.
Made from thin, brightly colored plastic ropes, the piece transforms a simple, familiar material into something unexpected. Through wrapping, weaving, and paracording, I built layers that twist and intertwine like serpents—an echo of Bolivian folklore. The bold blues, pinks, and oranges mirror the electric vibrancy of the Diablada, hopefully channeling both joy and ferocity.
This piece shifts with its wearer. On the body, it feels protective, almost like armor. As an installation, it takes on new forms, draping or hanging in ways that encourage fresh perspectives. It’s part of my ongoing exploration of wearable sculptures that blur the line between fashion, art, and function—pieces meant to be seen, touched, and experienced in different ways.
At its core, this work is about movement—not just physical, but cultural, emotional, and personal. It’s a tribute to heritage, transformation, and the power of reinvention.
